I enjoy contour drawing as it really trains observation. Go straight to the lines --- hit-or-miss; figuration becomes abstraction.  Albeit, the danger of observational contour drawing is an impaired imagination and a predisposition to lose sight or forget forms.

Van Gogh once said, "A line a day." An advice which we can all heed.
