Born in Singapore (1985), Le Matt left his engineering degree course to pursue his passion in traditional Western painting. Graduated from Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts in 2011, his ongoing practice is rooted in the exploration of the human condition, in particular social realism and portraiture.

He constructs and deconstructs his subjects with energetic, fragmented brushstrokes of colours; his artworks reveal deep narratives about social interactions and personal identities, evoking contemplation, awareness and empathy. Through elevating the mundane into art, he offers that beauty and meaning can lie behind the ordinary.

Matt is the recipient of Kwan Im Thong Hood Cho Temple Scholarship and has exhibited at various venues including Esplanade, The Arts House, Aliwal Arts Centre, National Design Centre, Objectifs Gallery, and the Affordable Art Fair.

Being proficient in various media ranging from graphite, acrylic to oil paints, he also teaches professional adult art classes since 2012. In 2020, he took up residency at Goodman Arts Centre where he founded his own fine art studio, Art Matters.

Currently, his social realist artworks are represented by Cape of Good Hope Art Gallery.
